Smiles for May
Dear Friends,
Very many thanks for your most generous support to my “1000 Smiles for May” fund raiser in aid of the Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign. As you may know I have far exceeded anything I originally considered when starting this adventure.
After 12 days, 12 staged fundraisers & 1500 (relatively!) problem free miles, on Wednesday 20th August I arrived at the Royal Marsden Hospital’s Sutton site in May’s Austin 7 Chummy. I was followed by a convoy of 20 other Austin 7s from the local South London club. I was accompanied by May’s Aunt Marion Warren-Smith and we were met by Professor Stan Kaye who ran May’s and others clinical trials.
I was at that time able to present Professor Kaye with a cheque for £30,000 to be used exclusively by his research team to further their work in the development of new
anti-cancer solutions. This is an area where they are undoubtedly world leaders.
I must also thank my amazing support team of collectors, organisers & motor enthusiasts without whom this venture would not have been possible but especially my mother for running the finances & Marion for lending me back May’s Chummy for the trip.
I am leaving the website open at this time as donations continue to arrive. You can check on the progress of our fundraising by going to

Again many thanks for your vital support.
Best wishes
David Leigh
