HIRING OUT YOUR AUSTIN SEVEN

Self Drive Classics are a
company founded in 2004 that specialises in the hire of
classic cars to enthusiasts who have the wish to drive
them but haven't got the wish or wherewithal to own
them.
The Company was established
by Steve Mincher to service the wedding hire and driving
experience markets around the Midlands but, as the
Company has developed, he has recognized that there is a
demand for classic cars to be used as 'extras' in films
and TV programmes and on photo shoots for advertising
campaigns. The vehicles that he currently offers are
primarily from the Fifties onward and many are sporty or
exotic but he is interested in expanding his range to
incorporate earlier vehicles that wouldn't look out of
place in a period setting. Which is where the Austin
Seven comes in.

When assembling the props to
dress a street scene production companies need cars that
would have been right for date and condition - not many
people were driving cars that looked as if they had just
come out of the showroom - so if your car has a 'used'
look then all the better. An important consideration is
that the car needs to be right for it's age so those
extras added to make it more driveable on today's roads,
such as indicators, would need to be temporarily
removable.
There
are, of course, other Companies
operating in this field that invite
you to register your car and a quick
search on Google will reveal them
but many require a registration fee.
Self Drive Classics do not charge
for registration and will only take
a commission from fees earned.
