CARS IN THE PARK - LICHFIELD
2008
Organized by the Rotary Club
of Lichfield St. Chad and staged at Beacon Park, Lichfield.
Cars in the Park is a two day event
coinciding with the Lichfield Festival. The event has been held
in aid of charity for eleven years and each year has seen it
grow and improve as more owners of classic cars and historic
vehicles attend.
Sevens lined up on the stand.
This year the Saturday had a few
showers and breezes but was mainly sunny. Sunday, however, was a
different matter and Sunday it was that the Lichfield Group of
the OA7C had decided to make their appearance - such is life.
For-warned is for-armed and the weather forecasts had been
consistently bad so a marquee had been packed and was rapidly
erected on the Club's pitch complete with chairs, tables and
supplies, ready for anything that the climate could produce.
Produce it did with three heavy downpours giving Rex Grogan
plenty of opportunity to demonstrate his squeegee technique on
his top hat's new paintwork and prompting quite a display of
umbrellas amongst the hardy types who had ventured out to see
the cars.

In the
sunny intervals that, thankfully
gave some respite the cars attracted
plenty of attention from the public
and also attracted the attention of
the Show's organizers who
unexpectedly awarded the Club a Best
Stand award for the first time. The
Club will now have to think about
investing in a display cabinet to
house said award with plenty of
space for the future ones that will
inevitably follow once we start
trying!

The day went very smoothly with
plenty of visitors to the stand to discuss the ins and outs of
Sevens and a barbeque nicely timed between rain showers that
managed to put out the coals just as the cooking finished.

appearance on local TV.
Promotion of the OA7C was kept low key because, frankly, not
many people were expected to turn up to get dowsed. But, despite
this, two new Members have joined and the Club gained a little
more profile locally. Here's to next year when it has been
proposed to theme the stand - maybe a bigger trophy is there to
be won.

Spires and cars.
